George David Jung, 80, of San Diego, passed away October 2, 2018 at Scripps Memorial Hospital, La Jolla, California.

George was born in Colden, New York on June 10, 1938 to the late Gerhard and Susan (née Rice) Jung. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his brothers Paul and Allan. He married Evelyn Wittman at Redeemer Lutheran Church on March 12, 1983. He has resided in San Diego since 1986.

George attended Redeemer Lutheran Church growing up and at one time served as a Sunday School teacher. He graduated from Springville-Griffith Institute High School and attended Valparaiso University in Indiana. For over 30 years he ran a successful insurance practice, Jung Insurance Agency. In his retirement, he enjoyed another very successful business, dog sitting. He was a very devoted father to his five children. He lived a very full life filled with love, kindness and especially humor.

His hobbies included spending time with his family, watching the NY Yankees and Buffalo Bills,, listening to music, singing, dogs and enjoying oysters on the half shell. He wrote two books including Gertie the Birdie, a children’s book, and Dear Ol' Stories by George of the Jungle, a memoir. He lived a very full life filled with love, kindness and especially humor.

George is survived by his wife of 35 years, Evelyn; a son Gerhard “Gary” (Jennifer) Jung of San Diego, CA; a daughter Susan (Rodney) Guzman of San Diego, CA; a son Gregory (Tracy) of Las Vegas, NV; a daughter Jenelle (Greg) Romero of Otis, OR; a daughter Melanie (Sean) Ramsey of San Diego, CA; five grandsons, Evan Guzman, Syd Goodman, Jonah and Jacob Jung, Oliver Romero; two granddaughters, Reyna Jung and Grace Romero; several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of George’s Life was held Thursday, Oct. 4 in the Maranatha Chapel Fellowship Hall, San Diego, CA. He will be laid to rest in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Springville, NY.
