Obituary for Dorothy B. Ploetz

Dorothy B. Ploetz entered into eternal rest with the Lord on Wednesday March 16th. She was born 8 February 1933 in Shawnee OK, the daughter of Rev. & Mrs. EJ Buerger. Predeceased by husband Leonard A. Ploetz, daughter Barbara A. Nagel, siblings Ed Buerger, Robert Buerger and Lois Morehouse.

She is survived by children Sandi Hammond, son-in-law Lenny (Mary) Nagel, Jeffrey (Deborah) Ploetz, Beverly (Gian) Dodici. Also survived by 10 beloved grandchildren Melissa, Nick, Shelley, Jason, Erin, Greg, Matthew, Eileen, Mark and Emma, 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Dot came to Ellicottville NY in 1946 and graduated in 1951. She was a bookkeeper and secretary for law firms and insurance companies in town, taught at BOCES, in addition to the Springville Journal.

Dorothy devoted her time and talent to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church as an Organist, Choir member, Sunday School teacher and superintendent, secretary, treasurer, and Ladies Aid member. She loved baking pastries for church coffee hour, Sunday dinners for the family, and incredible birthday cakes. Her creativity included knitting prayer shawls or baby blankets and decorating thousands of cakes for family and friends.

Friends may call Friday, March 18, 2022 from 5-8 PM at the SMITH-WEISMANTEL FUNERAL HOME, INC., 271 E. Main St., Springville, NY, followed by a Funeral Service Saturday, March 19, 2022 at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 6360 Route 242, Ellicottville, at 11 o'clock.
