Obituary for John C. Cranston

John C. Cranston of East Concord, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo at the age of 82.

He was born July 1, 1941 in Buffalo, a son of the late John R. and Edna (Smith) Cranston. He was a Crane Operator for Bethlehem Steel, had his own family Christmas tree farm, and was a member of the East Concord Community Church. Additionally, he enjoyed golfing and making birdhouses.

He is survived by his children: Anita (Michael) Conner of East Concord, Carole VanBuskirk of East Concord, and Tina Cranston; siblings: Martha (late Dick) Miller of East Concord, Ruth (late Don) Gentner of Springville, Sue (late Ted) Miller of Springville, Marylin (late Jack Winter) Farr of Sardinia, and Barbara (late Jim) Westerdale of PA, sister-in-law, Gail Cranston of Tonawanda; brother-in-law, Arthur King of Springville; grandchildren: Rachel, Sarah, John, Miranda, Gary Jr., and Dustin; great-grandchildren: Landon, Kaylie, Hailey, Evelynn, Lucas, Percy, and Aubrey; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Madeline (Nelson) Cranston, whom he married September 9, 1961 in Colden, and she passed away March 26, 2012. He is also predeceased by his siblings: James Cranston, and Nancy King.

Friends may call on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Smith-Weismantel Funeral Home, 271 E. Main St. Springville. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at 11am at the East Concord Community Church with final interment to be held at Fairview Cemetery in Springville.
