Obituary for Kay A. Pukay

Kay Young-Pukay (Kay Alice Young) passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family on November 23, 2022 at the age of 84.

She was born on April 28, 1938 to the late Harry and Ruth (Madsen) Young in Sault Ste. Marie, MI.

During her childhood and WWII, while her father flew for the Navy and her mother worked at an aircraft factory, she lived in Dundalk, MD. Her family moved to Buffalo where she
attended Kensington H.S. before settling on a dairy farm in East Concord, NY.

She attended Springville Griffith Institute and graduated from Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing and the University of Buffalo, N.Y. in 1960. She was a caregiver and registered nurse until her retirement from West Seneca Developmental Center, in 1993.

She was an animal lover who rescued several animals of all types. She loved nature, camping, gardening and the outdoors. Sheenjoyed being a member of the Eastern Star, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliary. She was a long time member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and will miss her many friends there.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, James, and her brother, James Young. She is survived by her children: Christopher (Wende Morgan) Pukay, of East Concord, Scott (Lynn Calandra) Pukay of Lebanon, Ohio, and Sharon (Dave) McCormick of Eagle, CO. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Sean, Ian McCormick, Cameron, Carter Pukay, Erika McCormick, Kimberly, Lauren Pukay.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Howard and Harry Young.

A Memorial Service will be held May 20, 2023, details to come. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, in Springville, N.Y. in honor of Kay Pukay.
