Obituary for Richard A. Schweickert

Richard “Dick” Schweickert, 95, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2023 at the VA Nursing Home in Batavia. He was born in Springville, NY to the late Raymond and Margaret (Gentner) Schweickert on June 21, 1928. After marrying Grace (Redford), he resided in East Concord until 2018, when he relocated to Churchville, NY.

Dick was a veteran, serving in the US Army from 1950-1956. He was a carpenter/handyman by trade. Also, an extremely talented wood worker and craftsman; spending many hours in his basement crafting countless “treasures” for family and friends.

A member of St. Aloysius Church in Springville, Springville Field and Stream, Lucky Five bowling team, and Fiddler’s Green Campers and Hikers Association. An avid traveler, who visited the 48 continental United States. Dick donated countless hours to the East Concord Fire Department; a decades-long member, serving many years as department chief.

Richard is preceded in death by his wife, Grace Schweickert (2001), whom he married June 21, 1952 at St. Aloysius Church; as well as his grandson, Bryan Ludwig (2021); and siblings: Dorothy Wilover, Agnes Cobo, Jeannette Quick, and Henry Schweickert. Survived by his daughter, Karen (William) Ludwig of Rochester; grandsons, Eric (Jaime) Ludwig of Marion, NY, and Adam (Jacquie) Ludwig of Rochester; sister, Barbara (Fran) Burnham of N. Olmstead, OH; and great-granddaughter, Brynn Grace Ludwig.

There will be no prior visitation. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family with final interment in St. Aloysius Cemetery in Springville.
