Obituary for Robert E. Kaufmann
Robert E. Kaufmann of Springville, NY passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at the Bertrand-Chaffee Hospital in Springville at the age of 87.
He was born February 19, 1935 in Springville, NY a son of the late Robert J. and Bessie (Booth) Kaufmann. He was a member of the St. Aloysius Church in Springville and was a United States Army veteran, serving from 1957 to 1959, primarily stationed in Germany. He was a former Councilman for the Town of Concord and was a sports enthusiast. He loved watching the Buffalo Bills, Penn State football, and the NY Yankees. He also enjoyed photography, woodworking, and traveling the U.S. to attend college football games, and to visit friends from high school and the military.
During his career at Springville Griffith Institute, also his alma mater, he was a driver’s education teacher, industrial arts teacher, and found his true calling as a high school guidance counselor. He also coached high school girls and boys basketball, cross country and little league baseball.
Robert is survived by his wife, Mary (Stewart) Kaufmann whom he married on July 26, 1958 in Springville; his children: Joel (Linda) Kaufmann of Wilmington, DE, Eric (Tracy) Kaufmann of Lebanon, IN and Lisa (Brad) Schurr of Springville; his grandchildren: Robert (Samantha) Kaufmann, Jonathan (Arden) Schurr and Ryan (Alexandra) Schurr; also survived by two great-grandchildren, Harper and Olivia Kaufmann as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandson, Daniel Kaufmann and his twin sister, Roberta (late Albert) Bowers.
Friends may call on Friday, October 14, 2022 from 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Smith-Weismantel Funeral Home, 271 E. Main St., Springville. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at 1pm at the St. Aloysius Church, 190 Franklin St., Springville with Rev. Daniel Fawls officiating.
