Obituary for Robert J. Glass

Robert J. Glass “Bob”, 64, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away on May 16, 2023. After a long battle with pancreatic cancer, Bob passed peacefully at home with his beloved wife of more than 10 years, Susan (Copperwheat) Glass, and family by his side.

Bob was born September 17, 1958, the son of the late Jay and Pearl (Cobo) Glass. He graduated in 1976 from Griffith Institute High School in Springville, NY. Upon graduation, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a Fire Control Technician, Missile, and was honorably discharged as a Chief Petty Officer on September 27, 1984. He received a Second Good Conduct Award, an Expeditionary Medal, and a Navy “E” Ribbon during his time in the Navy.

Bob had a successful career in Government Defense contracting, including working for close to 18 years in Dahlgren, VA, specializing in Facility/Systems Engineering, and later progressing to Program Management and Executive Leadership roles. His experience led to him taking a position in Maryland with CACI International Inc, where he worked as a Program Director for 20 years. Bob was a true visionary and dedicated professional who touched the lives of many during his successful tenure with CACI. As the Director of CACI’s Medical Logistics and Operations business unit, Bob’s unwavering commitment and exceptional leadership played a pivotal role in the company’s growth and success. Throughout his career, his remarkable achievements earned him numerous accolades, including the esteemed title of Program Manager of the Year; a testament to his exceptional skills and dedication.

Bob loved traveling the country on his Harley with his wife and friends from the Williamsport HOG Chapter. Some of his most memorable destinations include the Pacific Coast Highway, Yosemite National Park, and the Redwood Forest. He also loved to travel, and always looked forward to his annual trip to Grand Cayman.

In addition to his wife, Susan, Bob leaves behind his son, Justin Robert Glass and his girlfriend Ashley Morrison of Ashburn, VA, and mother, Lori Havens Glass; his daughters, Courtney Glass of Smithsburg, MD, and Kelly (Glass) Finneyfrock and her husband Aaron of Hagerstown, MD, and their mother, Barbara Ann Glass; his stepchildren, Alexa Plumley of Hagerstown and Matthew Plumley of Pinellas Park, FL; and his grandchildren, Alex Glass, Savannah and Jameson Finneyfrock, Callie Glass, and Alex Rose Neal. Bob is also survived by his siblings, Pamela Wesley of The Villages, FL; Kathy Farner and her husband Steve of Putnam, CT; and Kenneth Glass and his wife Kimberly of Collins, NY. In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his son Daniel Ryan Glass, his sister Patricia Kohn (George), and his brother Jeffrey Glass (Toni).

Mr. Glass will have services in Maryland and New York.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 19 from 10am-12pm and 2-4pm at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, May 19 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10, 710 N Main St, Boonsboro, MD 21713.

Friends may call on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 from 10am-12pm at the Smith-Weismantel Funeral Home, 271 E. Main St. Springville, where a Funeral will follow at 12pm with Pastor Matthew French officiating. Final interment will take place in Fairview Cemetery in Springville.
