Obituary for Shirley M. Ploetz

Shirley Mae Ploetz of Cattaraugus, NY entered eternal life February 14, 2022. Born Dec. 23, 1933, the daughter of the late Leland and Leona (Holland) Neudeck in West Valley, NY. She was the wife of the late John W. Ploetz (1996) and Richard E. Ploetz (1955).

Shirley graduated from West Valley Central School and the Buffalo General Hospital School of Nursing, and was a member of the former St. Michael’s Lutheran Church of Little Valley, NY. She worked as a nurse practitioner in Salamanca, NY, and school nurse at Cattaraugus Central School. She served as the school board president of Little Valley Central School, and was active as a 4-H leader in Cattaraugus County.

She is survived by six children, Douglas (Theresa) Ploetz of Little Genesee, NY; John L. (James Hindman) Ploetz of New York, NY; Anita Ploetz of Muncy, PA; Nina Ploetz of Rochester, NY; Beth Colbert of Syracuse, NY; and Laura Smoller of Oconomowoc, WI. Grandmother of Debra (Joseph) Bockhold; Marilyn (Marc) Perkins; Erin (Glenn) Hall; Thomas (Cecelia) Ploetz; Kara Ploetz; and Matthew (Michele) Colbert. Also five great grandsons, and three great granddaughters.

Sister of Jean Potter; Janette Bohrer; George (Jacque); Wayne (Mary); and Dale (Joyce) Neudeck.

She was pre-deceased by sister, Beatrice Williams; grandson, Richard N. Ploetz; three brother-in-laws, Dean Williams, Steven Bohrer, and Donald Potter; and a sister-in-law, Nancy West Neudeck.

There will be no prior visitation at the request of the deceased. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 6360 Route 219, Ellicottville, NY 14737, at 1pm on Thursday, February 17, 2022. A private burial service will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery, West Valley, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the MS Society, Autism Research Institute, American Cancer Society, ALS Association, or a church/charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Pines of Machias for the attentive care and companionship they provided over the past three years.
